The Minister for Education, Batt O Keeffee commented on 3rd level fees and generated quite a lot of media coverage this week. What did not get so much coverage was the Minister had also attempted to put curbs on 3rd level college spending in advertising etc. (he was told, he had no authority to do so!) He has now retaliated- initiating a value for money review of the sector. (Note government policy is that all major expenditure programmes must be reviewed at some stage) Not before time
